What is Water-based Adhesive?

Water-based Adhesive as a dispersing medium are a major category of environmentally friendly adhesives. Solvent-based adhesives are homogeneous systems with organic solvents such as benzene and toluene as dispersing media, and the phase is continuous. The water-based adhesive is a heterogeneous system with water as the dispersing medium.

Sort

Water-based adhesive as a dispersing medium are divided into water-soluble adhesives, water-dispersed adhesives and water-emulsion adhesives.

Water-based adhesives are mainly divided into water-based polyurethane adhesives, water-based polyacrylate adhesives, water-based epoxy adhesives, water-based silicone adhesives, polyvinyl acetate emulsion adhesives, neoprene latex and so on.

Water-based adhesives mainly include phenolic aldehyde, urea aldehyde, melamine formaldehyde, polyvinyl acetate emulsion, EVA emulsion, polyacrylate emulsion, waterborne polyurethane, and water-emulsion epoxy adhesive, the latter is in the initial stage in China.

Advantage

Water-based adhesives are one of the development trends of adhesives. Compared with solvent-based adhesives, they have the advantages of solvent-free release, meeting environmental requirements, low cost, non-flammable and safe to use. The solid content is relatively high, up to 50% ~ 60%. However, due to the slow volatilization of water, the glue curing slows down or needs to be heated and dried.
