Common Types of Adhesive for Labels

The water-resistant white of the label is closely related to the adhesive used in the label, and there are three main categories of glue used in common self-adhesive glue:

Water-based acrylate adhesive (water adhesive) : the main component of the adheisve has a large molecular weight and is difficult to migrate. However, the solvent is water (35% to 45% of the glue), and the water is all dried in the label production process. Usually, this kind of ordinary glue has poor water resistance, and is generally white after direct contact with water; The price of water-resistant white glue is high, and the technology is difficult. The water-based glue has good anti-residue performance. If the label is badly labeled, you can tear off the label and re-attach it to avoid product scrapping.

Rubber type hot melt adhesive (hot melt adhesive) : The main components of this kind of glue are SIS or SBS rubber, small molecule plasticizers (such as safe naphthenic oil), tackifying resins (rosin and petroleum resins). Hot melt adhesive has good water resistance, but the taste is larger and the color is yellow (rosin); At the same time, it is easy to residual glue after labeling (after not sticking well, tear off the label a lot of residual glue, and the entire product is scrapped).

Solvent adhesive: the adhesive is mainly based on acrylates, but the solvent often uses toluene/xylene/ethyl acetate and other solvents (accounting for 50-60% of the proportion of glue), and the organic solvent is difficult to completely remove in the production process, so there are safety risks. At the same time, the production efficiency of solvent-based self-adhesive is slow, a large number of organic solvents are added, and the environmental protection is poor.
