The Development Trends of Woodworking Machinery
With the continuous advancement of science and technology, new techniques, materials, and processes are constantly emerging. With China's entry into the WTO, the gap between the level of woodworking machinery and equipment in our country and those abroad is narrowing. Advanced foreign technologies and equipment will continuously flow in, posing both challenges and opportunities for domestic woodworking machinery. The development of electronic technology, digital control technology, laser technology, microwave technology, and high-pressure jet technology has brought new vitality to the automation, flexibility, intelligence, and integration of woodworking machinery, leading to an increase in machine tool varieties and continuous improvement in technological levels. The trends in development, both domestically and internationally, encompass several points:
Incorporation of high-tech into woodworking machinery: The application of CNC processing technology and the widespread use of computer technology indicate the advancement of high-tech across various technical domains. Electronic technology, nanotechnology, space technology, and biotechnology are either currently or will undoubtedly find extensive applications in the field of woodworking machinery.
Emulating more metalworking methods: Looking at the historical development of woodworking machinery worldwide, there is a trend toward assimilating woodworking methods with metalworking methods. For instance, the emergence of CNC milling machines is an example. Can we boldly predict that in the future, wood will be reshaped and formed similar to forging steel ingots? There's an increasing emulation of metalworking methods.
Driving efficiency through scale: From the domestic development perspective, both wood processing enterprises and woodworking machinery equipment are moving towards larger-scale operations. Otherwise, they risk becoming obsolete. At the current stage in China, there is still a significant market for outdated and simple woodworking machinery. Many wood processing enterprises are still following labor-intensive business models. The future of wood processing enterprises will inevitably follow a path of industrialization, large-scale operations, and standardization.
Enhancing comprehensive wood utilization: Due to the decreasing forest resources domestically and globally, the shortage of high-quality raw materials has become the primary constraint in the development of the wood industry. Maximizing the utilization of wood is a major task for the wood industry. Developing various types of engineered wood products and enhancing their quality and application range is the most effective way to efficiently utilize wood resources. Additionally, developing comprehensive tree utilization, reducing processing losses, and improving processing precision can increase wood utilization to a certain extent.
People-oriented, achieving green environmental protection: The Chinese government's initiatives such as returning farmland to forests, protecting natural forests, constructing forestry systems, and six major forestry projects are all wise measures for environmental conservation. Since July 1, 2002, the comprehensive enforcement of standards for engineered wood products prohibits the production and sale of products that do not meet environmental requirements. The development of the wood processing industry must adhere to two principles: firstly, environmental protection, minimizing the extraction of natural resources and reducing environmental pollution to the maximum extent; secondly, wood processing products must be harmless to the human body or control harmfulness within the lowest range. Therefore, the woodworking machinery and wood industry products with vitality in the future will undoubtedly be designed according to human engineering and comply with environmental protection requirements.
Increasing production efficiency and automation level: There are two aspects to improving production efficiency: shortening processing time and auxiliary time. Shortening processing time involves not only increasing cutting speeds and feed rates but mainly consolidating processes. Due to limitations in cutting tools, vibration, and noise, cutting speeds and feed rates cannot be infinitely increased. Hence, multi-tool through-type combined machine tools and processing centers with concentrated multiple processes have become the main development directions. Examples include double-end milling machines that combine sawing, milling, drilling, mortising, and sanding functions; edge banding machines combining multiple processing techniques; and CNC processing centers integrating multiple cutting processes. Shortening auxiliary work time primarily involves reducing non-processing time by using processing centers with attached tool magazines or using CNC assembly lines with automatic exchange workbenches between flexible processing units to minimize auxiliary work time.
